Places to Visit: Old Town Manassas Ice Rink

Contributed by Piedmont Family Magazine reader, Sarah Marrelli

If you're looking for a place nearby to get some outdoor exercise during the winter months, try the outdoor ice skating rink in Old Town Manassas. We spent the day after Christmas doing just that and it was great fun!

For just $7 for adults and $6 for kids you can skate as long as you like. You can even take a break for lunch at Subway or Foster's just across the street and come back to skate some more. Skate rentals are $3 or bring your own skates. Those who have old skates in need of sharpening, they also offer that service for about $5.

The rink is not Olympic-size, but it's just the right size for learning to skate, with great music and an idyllic setting in Old Town Manassas, next to the train station. Watching the occasional train go by provides the perfect excuse to stop and catch your breath. The snack bar has very reasonable prices for hot cocoa, cold drinks, popcorn and candy.
